Project Goal: Engrave predetermined part numbers on machined pieces via a laser.
NOVA Solution: A PC-bus-based computer was used with a PC-based motion control (2-axis) board and Visual
Logic software. The PC was turned into a full-featured PLC capable of communicating with an operator view
panel and keyboard programming terminal, which resulted in substantial cost savings compared to individual
stand-alone components. A vision system, integrated into the PC motion control software, positioned the laser in
the X/Y axis. Power supplies and auxiliary components were installed in a control cabinet and an external video
monitor and keyboard provided menu and programming access.
